Ofsted Report 2007
Congratulations go to the teachers, staff, pupils and parents of the Lubavitch Senior Girls School, who have been commended for their high standards and multiple achievements. Ofsted inspectors presented a glowing report, praising the school across the board; "the pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding."
After two days of intense inspection in the Spring term of 2007, Ofsted came to a conclusion that strongly commended the school’s community. The report stated that academic standards were good with particular emphasis placed on the high level of the religious education. It cited the Jewish Studies lessons as being amongst the best offering ‘a high level of challenge and debate.’ Although this should be of no surprise, it is encouraging that independent opinion could see that ‘pupils gain a profound understanding of their own culture [and] are also very aware and tolerant of other cultures.’
The school was acknowledged to be preparing pupils well for the future, not only by providing them with the ability to develop careers inside or out of the Jewish community, but also their ability to be integrated members of the wider community. The school’s achievements in providing numerous extra curricular activities was also noted. This was seen as encouraging the girls to develop ‘a strong bond with each other and the community.’
The school was also seen to show a capacity to push pupils at their own pace while ensuring that more able pupils could be extended to their full talents, for example with the International Maimonides Study Competition.
The success of the school to be able to ensure that individuals thrive and receive the attention they need is ‘because classes are small and teachers are dedicated.’ Special credit should be given to the teachers who were observed as ‘[showing] enthusiasm for their subjects, which the pupils find infectious.’
Perhaps the most encouraging and significant aspect of the report was its emphasis on the nurturing and caring nature of the school environment; ‘Pupils feel safe and trust the staff, who care for them well.’ Undoubtedly, it is this compassion and understanding that allows pupils to work well together, be well behaved and ultimately enjoy their schooling.
The school has much to be proud of; not only in its superb achievements in the eyes of the pervasive Ofsted but also its ability to manifest Yiddishkeit ideals. It has set a fine example of Jewish living which, no doubt, will stand the girls in good stead for their futures.
We wish all continued success with many more wonderful years ahead of inspiration and education for the next generation!
