Since 2007 Trafalgar Square has been home to an iconic menorah every year for the Jewish festival of Chanukah, lighting up the night with electrifying entertainment followed by the age-old tradition of lighting the Menorah.
This year we are looking to refresh the look of the Menorah taking it to the next level to create an impact not only for the 5000+ who attend the main event every year, but also to the hundreds of thousands of people who pass by Trafalgar Square over the Chanukah festival. We also aim to showcase the new design through publicity across the UK and around the world.
The competition will be a one-time event open for submissions from practitioners in the fields of art and design with technical designs being submitted by the 30th June 2019. Designs must be compliant with GLA requirements for weight (the weight restriction is vehicle/infrastructure up to 10 tonnes) and will be submitted to a judging panel selected by Chabad Lubavitch UK and the Genesis Philanthropy Group. The chosen design will be announced in early September 2019.
Once a design is submitted, Chabad Lubavitch UK will own the construction and publicity rights relating to the Menorah.
MEASUREMENTS
1. The height of the design will not exceed 9754mm (20 Amot).
2. The width of the design will not exceed 4877mm.
