Pop-up Sukkahs appeared for the first time this Sukkot at Heathrow International Airport. Available for use by travelers pressed for time, three pop-up sukkahs were made available for the duration of the festival.
The programme is the brainchild of Rabbi Hershi Vogel from Chabad of West London and Rabbi of Ealing United Synagogue.
Rabbi Vogel has worked tirelessly for many years to make things easier for people using the UK's busiest airport. He serves as the Jewish Chaplain and Rabbi at the airport.
“For the first time in its history, Sukkahs were available to thousands of travelers at three locations in Heathrow,” Rabbi Vogel said of the pop-ups located in Terminal 4, Terminal 5, and a shared location between Terminals 1 and Terminal 3.
Many people who may not otherwise have had the opportunity were able to perform the mitzvah of lulav and etrog in a Sukkah. This included both travelers and airport staff including ELAL employees.
Rabbi Vogel said the “wonderful project” was made possible through the kind sponsorship by Kays Delicatessen in North West London, Prides Auto in North London, and an anonymous sponsor.
