Since 2008, Rabbi Dovid & Sora Cohen of Chabad South London Students & Young Professionals, have been providing hot kosher food alongside the obligatory (parev) Strawberries & Cream, to the masses during Wimbledon fortnight, from their ‘Kosher Court’ mobile catering unit.
“It’s always very successful, more so when the weather behaves! People check in with us year after year to ensure we’ll be there, so we have definitely become part of the scene,” says Rabbi Cohen.
The Wimbledon Championships are steeped in tradition. Founded in 1877, it is the world’s oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament. Therefore, it seems only right that for the 10th straight summer, kosher food will be available for the thousands of fans – many of whom are Jewish and from all corners of the globe.
“I’ve never actually watched a tennis match,” admits Rabbi Cohen. “Our job here is to provide a warm Jewish meeting spot for people to grab a kosher bite to eat and do a mitzvah.”
This year, the Cohens have secured another great location: the forecourt of 384 Wimbledon Park Road – opposite Gate 10 on the way down to the action – ensure you exit Southfields tube station and then turn right. Orders can also be placed by phone on 07801 491 386.
They hope to see you there, regardless of the progress of Andy Murray and Dudi Sela – who we will be rooting for!
Open every day of play from 10am except for Saturdays. Come and stop by.
A project run in association with Chabad Wimbledon.
